Coffee & Cocoa

Importing Green Coffee Beans: Arabica vs Robusta, Grades and Containers

Green (unroasted) coffee is traded by origin, species, grade and processing method. Roasters buy on specification and samples, so clarity at the quotation stage saves time on both sides.

Arabica vs robusta

Arabica trades at a premium and is used for specialty and quality blends. Robusta has higher caffeine, a stronger profile and is widely used in espresso blends and instant coffee.

Grading and processing

Coffee is graded by screen size, defect count and cup quality. Washed, natural and pulped-natural processing produce different profiles. Specify the origin, grade and processing method you need.

Shipment and packing

Green coffee ships in 60 or 70 kg jute bags or in bulk liner bags inside containers. Moisture control during transit matters; agree on container lining and desiccants for long routes.

What to include in your RFQ

State species, origin preferences, grade or cup score, processing method, quantity in containers, destination port, Incoterm and whether you need pre-shipment samples.
