Copper scrap grades
Bare bright copper wire ("Barley") is clean, uncoated, unalloyed wire and attracts the highest price. No. 1 copper ("Berry" and "Candy") is clean unalloyed copper wire and solids. No. 2 copper ("Birch" and "Cliff") allows some oxidation, coating and lower copper content.
Aluminium scrap grades
Common aluminium grades include clean mixed old alloy sheet ("Taint/Tabor"), mixed aluminium castings ("Tense"), used beverage cans ("Talk" and "Taldon"), and aluminium extrusions such as 6063 ("Tread"). Purity, coatings and attachments drive the value.
Inspection and loading
Agree pre-shipment inspection with photographs of the material and the loaded container, recovery or metal content where relevant, maximum moisture and contamination, and the container weight. Scrap typically moves in 20 ft or 40 ft containers.
Regulation
Cross-border shipments of scrap are subject to waste-shipment and import rules in both the exporting and importing countries. Confirm the destination's requirements, including pre-shipment inspection certificates, before contracting.
